Police Connect Burned Car With Deadly Restaurant Shooting
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators are learning more information about a deadly North Richland Hills restaurant shooting.
Police believe the gunman who opened fire inside the Hunan Wok Restaurant, located on Rufe Snow Drive near NE Loop 820, was a former employee. The shooting left one man dead and another wounded. Both victims were also restaurant employees.
Hours after the shooting a man was found near a burning car, about 30 miles from the restaurant.
"The vehicle that was located in the unincorporated part of Tarrant County, near Benbrook, is possibly connected to our person of interest, or the suspect from the shooting," North Richland Hills Police Department Investigator Keith Bauman explained.
When emergency crews responded to the burning car call they found a man suffering from unknown injuries. Investigator Bauman said they learned more after an air ambulance took the man to the Parkland Hospital Burn Center. "The occupant was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, possibly self-inflicted, and also burns."
After the restaurant shooting police had a lead on a possible suspect and were trying to locate that person. Now that the murder and car fire are believed to be connected authorities are trying to verify some information.
"Our detectives are still working to confirm the identity of the hospitalized individual, to ensure that that is the person of interest we were looking for in reference to the shooting," Bauman said.
Police have not released the names of the shooting victims or the "person of interest."
