Police Arrest Suspected Attacker Caught On Security Video
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Haltom City police have arrested the person who they believe was captured on surveillance video attacking a homeowner attempting to stop him from burglarizing cars in a residential neighborhood.
Police said the tips they received, after the news story aired, led them to Fort Worth resident David Herrera. Members of Fort Worth SWAT arrested the 37-year-old on January 12.
Two days before the arrest, homeowner Robert Richter noticed suspicious activity on his security camera. He said he saw at least two people, with flashlights, trying to open the doors of vehicles parked on the street in the 4700 block of Woodhaven Lane.
When Richter went outside and yelled at the suspects one of the men attacked him. "I heard somebody coming up behind me, turned around, and he was coming after me. We took a couple swings at each other and he backed off, [then] started in with the gun and knife," he recalled.
The suspect, believed to be Herrera, ran after Richter, yelled at him and cut his arm with an unknown object.
Richter was able to retreat back inside the house but suffered minor injuries.
Herrera is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is in the North Richland Hills Jail. His bond has been set at $50,000.
