COPPELL (CBSDFW.COM) - Coppell police arrested a teenager Tuesday afternoon in the shooting of Charles West on Sunday.

Detectives located and arrested 18-year-old Montay Kentral Howard.  Howard is suspected of assaulting West by shooting him in the upper left arm on a middle school basketball court. West was treated and released from the hospital.

West told police he was meeting with friends to play basketball Sunday when Howard showed up with a gun.  West says he started to run when Howard fired multiple shots at him, striking West in the left bicep.  West says an argument earlier in the day over money likely triggered the violence according to the court document.

Howard was arrested without incident in the 600 block of South MacArthur in Coppell. Howard is currently in the Carrollton Police Jail charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.

West was arrested back in February and accused of sexually assaulting a woman at knifepoint. His attorney stated that the accusations were not true. The arrest came just days after West had committed to play football for Brigham Young University, a school with a strict honor code.

Detectives have not connected the sexual assault case to Sunday night's shooting, but have also not ruled out a possible link between the two cases.
