Police: Arlington Assistant Chief Arrested For Domestic Violence
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Arlington police assistant chief James Hawthorne is on administrative leave after his overnight arrest following a domestic disturbance call.
Arlington officers were dispatched to Hawthorne's home at 1 a.m. Sunday. Neighbors told CBS 11 News that they heard a commotion and saw clothing strewn about the front yard. Hawthorne was off duty and arrested for family violence by officers.
"I am deeply disappointed that an Arlington assistant police chief was involved in an incident of domestic violence. Regardless of who you are or where you work, domestic violence will not be tolerated or ignored in our community," said Will Johnson, Arlington chief of police, in a statement.
Hawthorne has worked with the department since 1985 and serves in the Community Support Bureau.
He ran with Johnson at the city's first run/walk to end domestic violence Saturday. The department tweeted out a photo of Hawthorne and Johnson with several other participants at the event at River Legacy Park. Hawthorne is the second from the right in the Twitter photo below.
