DALLAS (CSDFW.COM) - It's a rebirth of sorts. New plans are for Valley View Mall to go away and to be replaced with a mixed-use development of offices, shops and housing. The name of the new venture – "Dallas Midtown."

Beck Ventures purchased the 40-year-old shopping center and the president of Beck Ventures, Scott Beck, says eventually Valley View Mall will be completely different.

"You'll see kind of the mall peel, what I would say, inside out," explained Beck. "So making it from what it currently is today, which is a closed-air, air-conditioned mall, into a renaissance urban village. A pedestrian-oriented, walkable, outdoor, entertainment district."

The process won't happen overnight; in fact renovation of the 1.5 million square foot property is part of a10-year plan. But Beck said the goal was never to turn things around quickly.

"It's really important for the city and for us as good custodians of the city, just by being residents here as well as elected officials, to make sure that we get it right."

For now Beck Ventures will focus on re-filling the half empty mall with new tenants and reminding people that Valley View is still open for business.

Beck Ventures is also responsible for developing the town of Trophy Club and designing the Shops at Legacy.
