Plans Changing For Many As Irene Heads Toward East Coast
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - By the time Irene roared across the Bahamas, Aidan O'Hare was safely in Plano, along with more than 400 of his company's employees. "I'm glad we got out," he said.
The vice president of Forever Living, O'Hare says hundreds of the beauty supply company's workers were rewarded with a trip to a Caribbean hotel this past Sunday.
"All of sudden, we were just going to dinner on Monday night, and the general manager said, 'You got a minute?' and said to us, 'we're very concerned about the incoming storm.'"
The company scrambled to arrange for several planes to fly just in time to their hotel property in North Texas. "When we got here and heard the 'Welcome, y'all', we felt great," said O'Hare.
In Washington, D.C. meanwhile, organizers of the Martin Luther King dedication ceremony worked quickly to postpone their massive gathering. "I felt like I had to be there," said David Ellwanger, of Frisco.
One of the dozens of North Texans who planned to attend the dedication, Ellwanger says, he understands why plans had to change. "They had to postpone this. You can't have 300,000 people coming in 100 mile an hour winds and have them sitting out there listening to speeches."
