Plano Woman Charged With Smuggling Night Vision Scopes
Federal authorities have charged a suburban Dallas woman with trying to smuggle three night-vision rifle sights to Russia.
A federal court affidavit filed in New York accuses 24-year-old Anna Fermanova of Plano of trying tried to move the scopes in March without the proper export licenses.
Her attorney, Scott Palmer, said she bought the sights for a friend of her husband, who lives in Moscow, and that they were to be used for hunting.
The Latvia-born but Dallas-raised Fermanova was arrested July 15 at her parents' Plano home. She was released to home detention after posting $50,000 bond.
The case, first disclosed on the website thesmokinggun.com, comes after a 28-year-old Anna Chapman pleaded guilty in New York to charges of being a Russian spy.
