PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Officials in Plano took down a water tower on Monday morning.
The structure, located along Headquarters Drive, was demolished at 9:00 a.m. and took just a few minutes to fall to the ground.
The tower was brought down through a process called 'tipping' -- where demolition crews used torches to cut the tower base, and then watched as the structure fell to its side, similar to lumberjacks cutting down large trees.
The 178-foot tower was built in 1985 to serve the Legacy business park, but it has not been operational for the past five years.
The tower was demolished to make room for a new development of shops, restaurants, residential living and a high-rise hotel.
