Plano Teen Competes On "Jeopardy!"
WASHINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Will lightning strike twice? Is it possible for North Texas to celebrate two winners in the two most popular "Jeopardy!" tournaments for young contestants?
Monica Thieu won the Collegiate Tournament back in February, and now Plano High School's Ben Greenho has competed in the Teen Tournament, winning the semifinals a few weeks ago in Los Angeles. That won him a trip to our nation's capital to compete in the finals!
Nine teens flew to Washington, D.C. along with 120 "Jeopardy!" cast and crew members, 12 semi-trucks and literally tons of Hollywood props, all to make the famed DAR-Constitution Hall "Jeopardy!" ready. The transformation for the auditorium, which holds over 2,000 audience members, was impressive. Even host Alex Trebek marveled at the masterful morph into the perfect venue for teen battle! Executive producer Harry Friedman said that Washington, D.C. is the perfect location for the show to travel to, as the minds and intellect of the capital mirror the powerful minds of the contestants competing.
All of the teens were excited (and perhaps a bit nervous) but Greenho and his dad seemed calm -- a very good sign! Greenho felt well prepared, he said, and was just thrilled to have advanced to the finals. They enjoyed VIP tours of the city as well as the White House. And when the time came to actually play the game, all seemed relaxed and ready!
We cannot divulge the final outcome, but make sure you tune into CBS 11 during the week of May 7 to watch Greenho compete for $75,000 in prizes on the "Jeopardy!" Teen Tournament -- fingers crossed! Win or lose, Greenho said, as he prepares for the college application process next year, that this awesome "Jeopardy!" experience will definitely make one great essay! That sounds like a win/win for sure!
