Plano Resident Shoots Home Invasion Suspect

PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A Plano resident calls police to report a possible home invasion and moments after shoots a man that he says broke into his townhouse.

The incident happened in the 2500 block of Park Avenue.

The resident told police he was frightened after hearing banging on his front door.

"Somebody was beating on his front door as if they were trying to force entry. He immediately called 911," Plano police Officer David Tilley explained. "[He] kept a firearm inside of the residence and he retrieved that for his personal safety."

The resident, who was now armed, allegedly then heard a window breaking and then saw an intruder running up the stairs.

"He [the suspect] was charging towards him [the resident] at a rapid pace, he discharged his firearm at the individual," Tilley said. "The suspect then retreated back out of the residence."

Witnesses in the area quickly gave police a description of the injured suspect and a few other people who all fled from the scene. From those accounts, police were able to locate a suspicious car a few blocks away.

"Some of the officers that were checking the area were able to locate a vehicle in a neighborhood to the east of here that had the suspect, who had in fact been shot, inside," Tilley said.

The suspect was taken to a local hospital. His condition isn't known.

Police are still looking for the other men that were at the townhouse.

No charges are expected to filed against the townhouse resident.
