Plano Police Pursuing Purloining Puppy Pair
McKINNEY (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities are hot on the scent of a pair of puppy thieves in Plano and Frisco.
Plano Police executed a search warrant in McKinney hoping to find 9 stolen dogs taken from stores in Plano and Frisco last week.
Detectives received tips that a 28-year-old man who lives in an apartment near downtown McKinney is one of two people seen in security camera video from the Petland stores in the two stores last week.
The video shows the two breaking in and taking puppies out of their cages and throwing the animals into bags and crates.
But the police didn't find any of the nine stolen dogs, and worry they may have already been sold to people who are unaware of the thefts. "We're looking at having a lot of innocent victims who have these dogs thinking the way they purchased them was perfectly legitimate," said Plano Police spokesperson David Tilley.
Employees at the two pet stores remain hopeful that someone will come forward and help police find the missing animals. "Hopefully if they know and see this they will bring them back to us," said Petland's Megan Prast.
There are still empty cages at one of the stores where some of the stolen dogs were removed from.
The store has enhanced security and restricted access to its remaining dogs. Authorities say the stolen dogs have identifying microchips and could be seized from their new owners and urge anyone who bought a puppy in the McKinney area during the last week to have it scanned.
