Plano Man Charged with Killing Sister and Her Boyfriend Weeks After Losing Mother

PLANO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) - Blake Richards, 29, of Plano is charged with capital murder for the shooting deaths of his sister, Brittany Richards, and her boyfriend, Ross Escalante.

Records show the three may have been living together at the home on the 5800 block of Mulvane in Plano where the murders occurred.

According to Richardson police, someone called 911 around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 27 to report a possible murder.

Officers were dispatched to an address for an apartment where the family used to live.

Once they realized the address was outdated, they learned of the home in Plano where the family had recently moved and contacted police there.

Plano police arrived to find the door of the home open and the bodies of the victims inside.

Investigators had information the suspect might be at a Target store in Wylie, within two miles from the house. An off duty Richardson police officer near the store found Richards inside and arrested him without any incident.

Police have not released any information on a possible motive for the shooting.

An online obituary shows the suspect and his sister lost their mother three weeks earlier. She died at the age of 47 and records show she may also have shared a home with them. A neighbor recalled seeing Brittany and her mother doing yard work in front of the home.

Richards is being held at the Collin County jail on a one million dollar bond.

One bullet from the shooting appeared to land across the street from the victims' house.

A news photographer at the scene discovered a hole in a neighbors' mail box, from which police were able to recover a bullet.
