Plano Police Chase ATM Theft Suspect To Hutchins

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — A man who allegedly used a dump truck to steal an ATM from a Plano bank led police on a chase to Hutchins, officials say.
Officers responded to the Chase Bank at 3720 SH 121 early Saturday morning after an alarm went off, Plano police said. After following a tracking device in the ATM to the dump truck, multiple police agencies chased the truck to Hutchins. The suspect, 63-year-old Larry James Jackson, was arrested and charged with theft and evading arrest, according to Plano police. At this time it's unknown whether more suspects were involved.
At the bank, Plano police said officers found an unoccupied front-end loader that had been used to rip the ATM from its mounting.
Officers followed a signal from the ATM's tracking device until they found a dump truck with the machine inside. Police said officers signaled for the truck to pull over at U.S. Highway 75 and Plano Parkway, but the truck continued driving south. The driver was the only occupant, according to police.
City of Dallas police officers and Dallas County Sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit when the truck crossed into Dallas County. Hutchins officers then followed.
Plano police said spike strips were deployed at least twice during the chase.
In Hutchins the truck left the main road and went down a side street to the 600 block of West Hickman Street, where it hit the fence of a public works facility, police said. Officers then arrested the driver.
Plano police said officers were trying to determine whether more suspects were involved and if the two pieces of heavy equipment were stolen.
Jackson, a Hutchins resident, is currently in Plano City Jail and will be transferred to Collin County Detention Center in McKinney.
The investigation is ongoing.
