PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - The City of Plano has named Sam Greif Sr. its new Fire Chief. Greif comes to Plano from the Fort Worth Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief of Operations since 2011.
He directed and managed the Operations Division with more than 800 people and a budget of more than $90 million.
In his 30 years with FWFD, Greif held an array of ranks and positions, serving as Battalion Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Engineer, Firefighter and Paramedic.
"Chief Greif is dynamic, knowledgeable and a highly educated professional with a proven track record of leadership," said Bruce Glasscock, Plano City Manager. "He will build on the long tradition of excellence at Plano Fire-Rescue."
Greif graduated from the University of Texas Arlington with a Master of Public Administration in 2008.
"Plano has earned the title, City of Excellence," said Greif. "I have an immense amount of pride to be joining the Plano Fire-Rescue team. My wife and I are excited about becoming citizens of Plano."
Greif replaces Interim Fire Chief Marty Wade, who held that post since January, when Brian Crawford accepted a position as Chief Administrative Officer with the City of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Chief Greif, hired after what the city says was, "an extensive national search," will begin August 3.
