Plano Democrats Celebrate President Obama's Inauguration
PLANO (CBS 11 NEWS) - Inaugural parties stretched from Washington D.C. halfway across the country to Collin County.
At Plano Centre, Collin County Democrats, who don't often get to celebrate victory locally, made the most of the evening as they enjoyed President Obama's second inauguration.
Even though Republicans currently hold every public office in Collin County, Democrats say there are signs the electorate is changing.
"In the projection for the 2012 census, and the things that came out, there's actually 200-thousand African Americans and Hispanics that have democratic values," said Colin County resident Cristina Garcia.
Collin County Democratic leaders hope members of both parties will find a way to work together in the next four years as they face some difficult challenges in Washington.
"The gun control issue, obviously that's a hot button issue here in Texas," said Collin County resident Janice Bowling. "All the issues regarding education, education, the environment."
For now, the focus is on celebrating democracy, as this inauguration day winds down.
