Prosper Boy's Wish Granted With NYC Trip
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A 12-year-old boy from Prosper received the royal treatment Wednesday morning at DFW International Airport, before he embarked on an all-expenses paid trip to New York City. Cooper Anderson is suffering from a rare brain cancer, and his wish was to visit the Big Apple.
That wish was granted on Wednesday.
The sixth-grader arrived at the airport to a celebrity's welcome, as he prepared to depart on a vacation paid for by the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He was surrounded by reporters and photographers. Anderson is the son of a Plano firefighter, and the department's drum band provided a thunderous escort from the drop-off area.
And when Anderson arrives in New York City, the fire department there will meet him again to provide an escort. They plan to make the 12-year-old boy an honorary member of the New York Fire Department. He received that honor last week in Plano, where his father works. "It's something very special to be part of this," said Assistant Chief Jim Dickerson with the Plano Fire Department. "We feel very fortunate to be here and send him off."
Anderson suffers from gliomatosis cerebri, which has a five percent survival rate. But, for the next week, he does not have to be concerned with that, as he takes in the bright lights and big buildings of the NYC.
