Pilot, 80, Dies In East Texas Crash Of Small Plane
EMORY (AP) - An 80-year-old man is dead after the small plane he was flying crashed and burned near a private rural airstrip in East Texas.
A statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety says John Armstrong of Emory was the lone occupant of the plane. It crashed about 2 p.m. Tuesday just off Texas 19, about two miles north of Emory and 60 miles east of Dallas.
The DPS says the plane was making a landing attempt when it flipped onto its top and burned.
