Pierzynski Out Of Rangers Lineup Vs White Sox

ARLINGTON (AP) -- Texas Rangers catcher A.J. Pierzynski is out of the starting lineup for the series opener against his former team, the Chicago White Sox.

Pierzynski is dealing with soreness and bruising on his right side, though manager Ron Washington said the catcher was available to pinch hit if needed Tuesday night.

Pierzynski spent the previous eight seasons with the White Sox before signing as a free with Texas during the offseason.

Washington described Pierzynski as "not out, he's just down." After an off day Monday for the team, Washington hopes an extra day or two out of the lineup will be beneficial.

Pierzynski is hitting .295, and his seven-game hitting streak is the longest for Texas this season.

Geovany Soto made his sixth start of the season at catcher for Texas.
