Phone Cases Becoming New Fashion Trend
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - It is not strange for a woman to have a huge collection of clothes or handbags. But now, more people are treating cell phone cases like the newest accessories -- by owning several of them for different looks. It is becoming a booming business. Phones do so much now and it is typical for people to carry a do-it-all gadget. With something being seen so often, it is not surprising that some phone users want to spice up the look.
Top designers are helping the budding trend, adding that crucial flair to phone covers. Fashion stylist Holly Quartaro showed off some of the hottest cases available. "A lot of designers are doing iPhone cases and smartphone cases because they know there is a big market out there," she said. Gucci makes one of Quartaro's favorite iPhone cases. "It's rubber and practical, but it also gives you that designer label that a lot of us are looking for."
"For some of us, it's not just about protecting our phone. It's about incorporating it into our life and making it work," Quartaro explained, moving to a Michael Kors designed phone case that also holds credit cards and identification. "It's a red ostrich case and it's a little wristlet."
Studs are also a popular phone case trend. Not everyone can afford a new diamond ring, but a sparkling case -- available in a variety different colors and designs -- can often be the most affordable cases on the market. It is the perfect way to add some bling to an otherwise dull gadget.
"Then there's the novelty case," said Quartaro. "These are kind of quirky, kind of fun, maybe you're in the mood to be a little silly or lighthearted. We are seeing lots of animal motifs." She pointed specifically to one designed by Marc Jacobs featuring a stylized zebra face -- including ears sticking up from the top.
BCBG also has a bunny case -- also with ears -- that features a furry little tail on the back. The puffy tail is both cute and functional, because it can be used as a phone stand as well.
"These cases range anywhere from under $20 to over $100, so no matter what your budget, or what you're willing to spend, you can find that phone case that is perfect for you," Quartaro said. Of course, the best part about accessories is that you can never have too many!
