Peyton Manning vs. Peyton Manning Type Time Via Tony Romo

There is a huge difference between "Peyton Manning Type Time," and actually being Peyton Manning.

Jerry Jones said during the Cowboys offseason that Tony Romo's new contract would facilitate "Peyton Manning Type Time" at Valley Ranch and on the field.

This meant that he would be more invested in everything from the offense to the image to the success of the team.

Tony has taken on the success and failures of the team without the huge contract, he had a sizable contract before, but he was also a budding ball of potential at that time.

When Jerry said this he was validating Tony Romo as the leader of the team. The Field General for which they should follow.

I've said it before, I never thought Tony Romo was ready for nor did he want the leadership role. I feel like he always thought he never had enough skins on the wall to be the leader, to actually speak up when he felt something was wrong.

Problem with not having enough skins on the wall is that you are always trying to live up to those who do with unfair disadvantages and if you don't you'll be considered a loser and a bad player.

Now, during the offseason, Jerry Jones anointed Romo with that small statement. He made it clear, the contract, the expectations and the job description were to work as hard to be Manning. That also means the rest of the team has to fall in line and do their jobs.

However, Manning is the cream of the crop. His pedigree is No. 1 draft pick, not undrafted free agent. Super Bowl MVP, not dropped Field Goal snap against Seattle. Fastest ever to reach 50,000 yards passing Fastest ever to reach 60,000 yards passing , to 4,000 completions and to 400 passing touchdowns.

Tony Romo is not Peyton Manning and as we've seen in the first three games is far from it. But really, is it fair to compare the two? No. But it's good Jerry Jones set a goal for Romo.
