DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - One man was shot and killed outside of a home in Dallas early Wednesday morning. It happened at around 2:30 a.m. in the 11800 block of Dorchester Drive, and the suspects are still on the loose.

Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Juan Trevino Jr. of Dallas. His family owns the vacant home, but are staying around the corner while the two-story residence is being slowly remodeled. Trevino often parked his car in the home's driveway.

Trevino had used an ATM at a nearby CVS Pharmacy location, making a deposit so that his motorcycle payment would clear, family members explained. He then stopped by the vacant home. The family believes that three male suspects in a dark-colored SUV followed Trevino to the home and tried to rob him in the driveway.

The confrontation turned violent and the victim was shot in the chest and the arm. He was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, but later died.

"After the fire trucks arrived, I asked if I could ride with them. It was just a ride of prayer," recalled Sandra Trevino, the victim's mom. "The whole way through, the gentleman who drove, I could hear my seat belt siren just going and going. He never once asked me or interrupted me. So, the whole way through it was a ride of prayer."

Neighbors heard the shooting, and a witness saw the suspect's vehicle drive away from the scene. That man later had to be restrained at about 5:30 a.m. when he became combative with officers. He is said to be a lifelong friend of the victim. He is not considered a suspect, but was simply overcome with emotions.

Police have not released an official description of the suspects. Family members said that the robbers got away with the victim's cell phone, wallet and keys -- although his car was not taken. The vehicle was later removed by authorities.
