Woman & Several Dogs Dead After Kessler Park House Fire
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Firefighters responded to a house fire in the Kessler Park area of Dallas early Friday morning that left one woman and several dogs dead. According to Dallas Fire-Rescue, the fire broke out at around 4:00 a.m. at a home along North Oak Cliff Boulevard.
Crews reported flames coming out of the roof of a duplex when they arrived at the scene.
Two people lived in the building and were home when the flames broke out. One of those residents was able to escape the fire without injury. But a 67-year-old woman died, along with several dogs that she was fostering.
Family members and fire officials said that the woman was missing, however, the Dallas County Medical Examiner was called to the location about two hours later, indicating that her body had been found inside of the burning home. This was confirmed by officials a short time later.
The fire has since been extinguished.
At least six dogs were also found dead inside of the home, officials said. They were turned over to Dallas Animal Services.
Dallas Fire-Rescue battalion chief Mark Berry said that firefighters were able to get inside of the home easily, but the roof had collapsed. Debris inside of the building made it difficult to search through the rubble for any possible victims.
No firefighters suffered injuries during this incident.
Officials said that the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, but it is under investigation.
