Perry Speaks As Abbott Declaration Awaits
IRVING (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry makes his first speech since announcing he'll forgo a bid for re-election.
Perry announced earlier this week that he won't seek a fourth full term next year. Eyes remain on the Texas Republican, nevertheless. He makes a Friday speech to a military veterans' group in Irving as observers await his announcement of future political plans.
Meanwhile, a Sunday "major announcement" is awaited for long-serving Republican Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. That's amid speculation that he'll formally kick off his 2014 gubernatorial campaign.
Abbott already has a formidable war chest of nearly $23 million.
