Perry Set To Sign Service Animal Law

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is signing into law a bill ensuring that restaurants and food stores allow service dogs, including those for military veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Perry takes part in a ceremony Friday in San Antonio at a Veterans of Foreign Wars hall. The plan is sponsored by Rep. Jose Menendez of San Antonio.

The measure limits how much employees can ask disabled people about entering with dogs -- even those with PTSD, or other disorders that aren't visibly obvious. The bill also includes a fine for discriminating against a disabled person.

Concerns had been raised that business owners could face criminal penalties for attempting to verify the service animals are actually being used to assist disabled people.
