Perry Says Obama Doesn't Understand Military
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Republican Ron Paul says he was married with two children when his Air Force draft order came and he still served, as he attacked former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for his draft deferments.
At the GOP debate Saturday, Paul challenged why his rivals hadn't been in the military. He and Texas Gov. Rick Perry were the only two who served in the military.
Perry, a former Air Force pilot, says he understands what it is like for those on the front lines. He also says President Barack Obama does not.
And Gingrich is describing himself as a "military brat" and is pointing toward his appointments to advisory boards as experience. He says Paul is slurring him when he criticizes him for not wearing a uniform.
