Perry Has Successful Surgery
AUSTIN (AP) -- Gov. Rick Perry is recovering from successful surgery to repair his right clavicle, which had yet to properly heal following a 2009 bicycle accident.
Perry spokeswoman Lucy Nashed says Perry's "doing fine. Everything went smoothly."
The 90-minute outpatient procedure was performed Friday by Dr. Bruce Malone. It required a single incision to place a countered plate.
Nashed said Perry was e-mailing with his chief of staff in the hours after the surgery, meaning he was already back working.
Perry abandoned an unsuccessful run for the Republican presidential nomination on Jan. 19.
The 61-year-old had stem cell surgery on his back last summer, and later suggested that continued back pain had hindered him during the early part of his presidential campaign.
