Perry, Cruz, Cornyn Join Forces On Medicaid
AUSTIN (AP) — Texas' top Republicans guns, Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, are teaming up to again oppose expanding Medicaid services in their state.
Advocates say extending the program could provide up to 1 million Texans some health care coverage.
But it's also a centerpiece of the White House-backed health care reform all three men despise.
Perry says the program will "bankrupt" Texas. Cruz, a tea party firebrand who has made waves since arriving in Washington, wants to repeal the entire health care law.
The trio will participate in a Medicaid round-table discussion Monday, then hold a news conference.
Also participating are fellow Republicans U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, state Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, and the man Cruz upset in last year's GOP Senate primary, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.
