DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Rick Perry's cash-strapped presidential campaign is set to keep going in Iowa with just one paid staffer and some volunteers.
The former Texas governor's senior Iowa strategist, Robert Haus, says the Republican campaign will have one paid operative for now. Haus will stay on in an unpaid capacity.
Perry's campaign has struggled with sluggish fundraising. Last week, Perry's state chairman, Sam Clovis, left to work for Donald Trump.
Haus says Karen Fesler, who served as Iowa co-chair of the campaign, is leaving to work for former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum's 2016 bid. Despite the setbacks, Haus claims confidence that Perry can finish in the top tier in the Iowa caucuses.
