RICHLAND HILLS (CBSDFW.COM) - At least one elderly resident in Richland Hills and at least two more in North Richland Hills have been targeted by thieves claiming to work for Oncor.
In the Richland Hills incident, a man around 50 years old, 6 feet tall, with brown hair and blue eyes, knocked on the door of a residence in the 6800 block of Hovenkamp and told the elderly resident there was a power outage in the neighborhood. He talked his way into the home and when he gained entry, he stole several items including a credit card. The suspect was able to distract the victim by asking him to test the electricity by turning a light on and off.
The suspect, who was described as clean shaven, was driving an older model small single cab pickup, possibly a Mazda, green or blue in color.
Two similar incidents have been reported in North Richland Hills, where suspects tried to get into elderly residents homes. In one of those cases, the suspect description is similar to the description in Richland Hills. The suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark colored, possibly gold, four door vehicle. The other case involved a white male, about mid 20's in age, brown hair, wearing a hard hat, and driving a vehicle similar to the one described in the Richland Hills case. Police believe all the cases are connected.
Police tracked charges made to the stolen credit card and identified a white woman, with long dark hair, using the card. If you recognize the woman or the truck seen dropping her off (which also matches the suspect vehicle description), call Richland Hills Police Investigator J. Carrion at 817-616-3788 or Crime Stoppers at 817-469-8477.
