SOMERVELL (CBSDFW.COM) - A North Texas mother is in custody after allegedly burning her 2-year-old by placing the child inside an oven.

Deputies with the Somervell County Sheriff's Department were called to a house after getting a report about a 2-year-old with severe body burns.

When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as Tasha Shontell Hatcher of Glen Rose, at the home. The 34-year-old reportedly told officers that she had put her baby in the oven.

Hatcher was arrested and has been charged with Injury to a Child with Serious Bodily Injury, a first-degree felony. If found guilty, she could face between five and 99 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

The 2-year-old was initially taken by ambulance to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth but was later transported by CareFlite air ambulance to the Parkland Burn Center in Dallas.

Hatcher is being held on a $300,000 bond.

The Texas Rangers and Child Protective Services are assisting the Somervell County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
