PD: Prowler Targeting Irving Apartment Complexes

IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) - Irving Police are warning apartment residents about a man they say has broken into or tried to break into several residences over the past two weeks.

Police say it has happened six times since August 13, and all of the incidents have occurred in apartment complexes near Belt Line Rd.  between Northgate and Walnut Hill.  Police think the same man is responsible in all of these cases.

The man was able to get inside three apartments, two of them through an unlocked door or window.  Police say the suspect ran away after a struggle with residents inside two of the apartments.  On the other occasion, the suspect ran away after the resident screamed, according to police.

Witnesses have given police a very general description: black man, between 5'8" and 5'10" with a medium build.  Police say the suspect was wearing similar clothing during all the encounters, which happened either late at night or early in the morning.

Police are urging residents to lock their doors and windows and be aware of their surroundings.  Meanwhile, extra patrols have been assigned to the area.
