PD: Jogger Attacked At Oak Cliff Park

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police say a man attacked and tried to drag a woman away from a North Oak Cliff park this morning – and they are still looking for the suspect.

It happened at Lake Cliff, which is near Zang Blvd. and Colorado.

The 27-year-old woman was running just before 7 a.m. when according to the police report, a man sitting on a park bench stepped in front of her and grabbed her by the shoulders.  The woman managed to slap the suspect and yell for help.  He ran away as a construction worker who heard the screams came over to help.  She says she noticed the man on her first lap, and on her second lap he attacked her.

Other women who use the park are now concerned for their safety.

"I'm in this park everyday and here by myself sometimes," said Joanna Withers.  "It's frightening to know someone could do that to another human being and imagine what would have happened if he'd gotten her."

Diana Hernandez, who also uses the trail, says for reasons like this, she never runs alone. "You shouldn't run alone. Anywhere can be unsafe," she said.

The woman gave police a brief description of her attacker. Officers have been patrolling the area throughout the day, but have not made any arrests.
