Patriot Guard Riders To Honor Kyle Across State
MIDLOTHAIN (CBSDFW.COM) - The funeral procession Tuesday for Chris Kyle is expected to be one of the largest. It stretches all the way from Midlothian, where Kyle's funeral will be held, to Austin, where he'll be buried at the Texas State Cemetery.
Hundreds of Patriot Guard Riders will be there as escorts, honoring the man they call a hero. "This man is a hero, over and over," Patriot Guard Captain Mike Lambert said.
The Patriot Guard Riders honor those to whom honor is due -- veterans, whether they are nameless, homeless, victorious. They said that Chris Kyle is in category all his own. "This is a very unique veteran," Lambert said.
Kyle, a former U.S. Navy SEAL, was reportedly the most lethal sniper in American military history. "That man, through his actions saved a lot of American lives," said John Watts, another Patriot Guard Rider.
"This man deserves all that we can give to him, his family and his community," Lambert said.
Kyle's memorial service is being held Monday at Cowboys Stadium, where Patriot Guard Riders will stand at the flag line. "He is viewed as a true Texas hero," Lambert said. Tuesday, they ride 200 miles for Kyle's funeral procession.
Patriot Guard Riders across the country are expected to join them. "It wouldn't surprise me if we had over 1,000 riders," said Carlton Emmons, another Patriot Guard Rider.
"I was asked if there was a cutoff. No, there's no cutoff on honor. Who do you tell they can't be a part of this?" Lambert asked.
Thousands of citizens are expected to join in too. "I'm expecting this to be a huge procession, very emotional and people to be lined on the highway with flags all the way down," Emmons said.
It is a fitting farewell for a man who was already a legend before he died. "I'm proud to be part of it," Carlton Emmons said.
Chris Kyle's funeral procession starts at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Midlothian Funeral Home.
