Tolls on I-35W
Mounting congestion and dwindling highway funds may bring tolls to Fort Worth's I-35W. The city council is looking at a plan that would rely on a private company to handle the bulk of the financing and widening 35W, then be allowed to collect tolls for 50 years. Marabel Chavez with TXDOT says the state has little money for the project and Washington is financially strapped as well. The plan is to add two toll lanes to the freeway. Councilman Jungus Jordan says it's not going to make the entire highway a tollway, but leave several free lanes. The project won't be completed before 2017.
