Part Of I-35E Shuts Down Corinth Parkway Bridge Demolition

UPDATED (Saturday February 8, 2014) - North and southbound I-35E near Corinth Parkway is now open to traffic -- several hours earlier than expected.
The interstate was closed Saturday night as crews demolished the Corinth Parkway bridge to make way for construction of the new mainlane bridges that will eventually travel over Corinth Parkway.
Now that the Corinth Parkway bridge has been demolished, the following detours will be in place through summer 2016:
· Northbound motorists wishing to access westbound Corinth Parkway will use Post Oak Drive.
· Southbound motorists wishing to access eastbound Corinth Parkway will use the U-Turn near Exit 459.
This work is related to the 35Express Project, an expansion of I-35E between US Highway 380 in Denton County and I-635 in Dallas County. All closures are subject to weather conditions and will be postponed, if necessary.
CORINTH (CBSDFW.COM) Interstate 35E in both directions near the Corinth Parkway exit will be shut down this weekend.
From 8:00pm Saturday until 8:00pm Sunday, the interstate will be closed so crews can demolish the Corinth Parkway bridge.
The 18-month project to replace the section of Corinth Parkway with a road that will eventually go underneath I-35E is a part of the massive 35Express project.
Once complete, the project will add multiple lanes, managed tolls lanes, and improve the frontage roads on I-35E from Denton to Interstate 635.
"Traffic is crazy now that they've shut this down," said Mary Kathryn of Corinth. "But it's going to be better in the long run and resident are just going to have to tough it out for the next year."
The section of Corinth Parkway that will run under the interstate is scheduled to open in the summer of 2016.
