Palo Pinto Fires Continue To Burn

PALO PINTO COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - Two wildfires that have burned thousands of acres of land near Possum Kingdom Lake are reported to each be 25 percent contained.

One fire is located about 30 miles away from an area called Dark Valley. That fire has burned about 1,800 acres. Patrick Allen from the Texas Forest Service says that firefighters there are having difficulty because of the area's terrain.

"Where the fire is, it's proving very inaccessible for engines and dozers to get in there steep terrain dangerous for firefighters," said Allen.

Last year's drought conditions left behind dry foliage that also is providing fuel for the flames and making fighting the fires difficult.

But so far there have been no reports of injuries or buildings being damaged as a result of either of the fire.

In the spring of 2011, wildfires burned more than 150 houses near Possum Kingdom Lake.
