KELLER (CBSDFW.COM) - Keller Police want residents to be on the lookout for a man who may be asking for help and taking advantage of people's kindness. Police say he could be working with a partner, a woman reportedly begging for cash with him.
Roger Benefield obliged, giving him a few dollars. The coach is seen on security footage heading into the convenience store; the panhandler doubles back around, opens the side passenger door and is seen rummaging through the vehicle.
Inside the console of the truck, was a fist full of championship rings that Benefield earned as a former Baylor offensive lineman and local coach.
People reported spotting him and a woman asking for money at a 7-Eleven location off of Heritage Trace Parkway. The two can be seen on security video, standing in line at the 7-Eleven on November 16th.
A witness also says she spotted the man at a convenience store in White Settlement.
"We pride ourselves in Texas on southern hospitality. Giving especially this time of the year. It's sad," said Kelly Vandewalker a Keller resident.
"Makes you think twice about being nice." said Dallas Fousek, a 7-Eleven Customer.
If you can identify either of the people seen on the security video, police want to hear from you.
