Owners Vote Today on Purchase of Rangers
Major League Baseball owners will vote today on whether to accept Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenburg into the club. Last week, Greenburg and Ryan overcame a challenge from Mavs owner Mark Cuban and acquired the right to the buy the Rangers out of bankruptcy. But Major League Baseball owners always have the right to veto any purchase. The deal crossed a couple of hurdles yesterday in Minneapolis where Major League Baseball owners and front office executives are holding their quarterly meetings. Both the ownership committee and executive council unanimously approved the sale Wednesday after Greenberg and two of his principal investors presented their plans and philosophies for running the team and then took a battery of questions. Commissioner Bud Selig says the committee and the council were unanimous in giving their seal-of-approval, paving the way for today's poll of the owners meeting as a whole.
