One Dead, Another Injured In Dallas Police Officer Involved Shooting

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Dallas police are investigating an officer involved shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

This is the second officer involved shooting in five days.

Sr. Cpl. Christopher Timms, a 6 year veteran of the force, was working an off-duty security job at Club Icon along the 2200 block of W. Northwest Highway when a fight broke out in the back parking lot as people were leaving the club around 2:15 a.m.

"The officers responded to that fight. A crowd had gathered. The officers began to give commands to disperse that crowd. Gunfire erupted from within the crowd," said Maj. Jeff Cotner, with the Dallas Police Department.

Police say Sr. Cpl. Timms spotted a suspect firing off his gun.

"Fearing for their safety, those innocent lives, Officer Timms fired his weapon at the suspect," Maj. Cotner said.

A security guard who did not want his name used described what he saw. "There were shots and cop told the guy that was shooting to put the gun down and whenever he did, he still had the gun in his hand and that's when he was shot."

The suspect, identified as Tyrique Rashad Johnson, 21, died later at Parkland Hospital.

Another witness, who name was not released, was shot in the leg and is expected to be okay.

Sr. Cpl. Timms has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
