Two Dead, Another Critically Injured After Arlington Fire
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) – A woman and a girl were killed, another adult was critically injured and two people remain unaccounted for after a three-alarm fire engulfed a two-story apartment building in the 2000 block of East Abrams Saturday afternoon.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the victims Sunday as 11-year-old Erica Joyner and 29-year-old Kim Moore.
Fire officials located the bodies in separate units, said fire spokesman Jim Self. A third person, also unidentified, was taken to Parkland with possible burns or smoke inhalation injuries. On Saturday, Self said officials were still searching for two missing adults, but on Sunday he said they may not have been home at the time of the fire.
The injured victim has not been identified, but the Dallas County Medical Examiner had no burn or smoke fatality victims listed.
"Within five minutes, most of the second floor was well involved," Self said. "There was heavy smoke and heavy fire; being able to stop that fire of this magnitude in this heat ... was our priority."
The Red Cross was on scene to help the 35 residents displaced after the blaze.
The fire tore through an entire building and destroyed 20 units, five of which were vacant, said Red Cross spokesman Phil Beckman. The fire was under control by about 3 p.m. Fire officials are investigating the cause.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said the fire happened in the 2600 block of East Abrams. The apartment complex is actually in the 2000 block of East Abrams.
