Two Children Dead In Grand Prairie Crash
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM)-- Two children died and two more were critically injured after an accident Sunday afternoon in Grand Prairie.
Police were on their way to help a stalled car in the left lane on westbound I-30 near the President George Bush Turnpike just before 2 p.m. when they received a call that the vehicle had been hit.
There were four children inside and all were taken to Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the dead as 12-year-old Maria Gonzalez-Refugio and her 13-year-old sister, Dianna Gonzalez Refugio. The girls' 10-year-old sister and six-year-old brother are both in critical condition.
Their mother, 31-year-old Maria Vasquez of Irving, was driving the car and had minor injuries. She was also taken to the hospital.
Her husband, 34-year-old Juan Gonzalez, had gotten out of the car to waive off traffic. He was not injured.
Police say Justin Beavers, 30, of North Richland Hills, rear-ended the car. Police say he did not appear impaired in any way and told them he didn't see the car.
There was no word Sunday on charges, and police said they are still investigating.
Traffic in the area was backed up for a few hours.
