FRISCO (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - The Dallas Cowboys are partnering with Omni Hotels & Resorts to develop an upscale hotel where the team is building its new headquarters.

The 300-room hotel in the Dallas suburb of Frisco will be a key part of the mixed-use development going up around a 12,000-seat indoor stadium and team practice facility. The stadium also will be used by the Frisco Independent School District.

The Cowboys plan to open the facility for training camp in 2016. Construction is currently underway. They will have at least a week of camp at the site, which will have outdoor practice fields. The new Omni hotel is scheduled to be completed in 2017, with work beginning in the spring.

The hotel is part of a planned development dubbed Cowboys Alley, featuring corporate offices along with retail outlets and restaurants. The hope is that this development becomes a big draw for both locals and tourists. "This promises to be a powerhouse development that will attract millions of people each year to the vibrant Frisco community," said Omni Hotels & Resorts president Mike Deitemeyer.

Mayor Maher Maso teased that more announcements -- and more hotels -- will be coming soon. "This site is a multi-use site, mixed-use site, and it always anticipated that there would be a limited service hotel on the site, and there may be more," Maso added. "You'll see regular announcements out there. This won't be the last."

Frisco is located 30 miles north of Dallas, and about 20 miles northeast of the team's existing practice facility in Irving.
