Technology Makes Collin County Voting Easier
NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Every year technology seems to be changing the election process. This year Collin County had its biggest early voting turnout ever and those ballots are currently being stored inside sealed electronic machines that will be counted on Tuesday, November 6.
Collin County is also one of a handful of municipalities in the state that is allowing Election Day voters to cast their ballots anywhere inside its borders.
The county's 460,000 registered voters can go to any of its 67 polling sites and vote. This is the firs time the option has been available in a Presidential election. Officials there say the move is one way to make Election Day more efficient.
"Perhaps if people are coming home from work, when they come from outside the county, perhaps they can stop at the closest place [to vote] when they are coming through," explained Collin Co. Election Administrator Sharon Rowe.
On the technological front, the busiest polling places in Collin County will also have OR Codes on site. Voters can swipe the code with a smartphone and look at a map displaying green and red lights. A green light means the vote wait time is less than 20 minutes and provides another option to standing in a long line.
There are as many as 100,000 Collin County voters projected to cast their ballot on November 6.
