Officials Search Lake Tawakoni For Evidence In Kaufman Co. DA Murder

Update 7:45 p.m.: No weapons were found in Lake Tawakoni on Wednesday.

DALLAS (CBSDFW/AP) - A dive team is searching a North Texas lake for weapons in last year's slayings of the Kaufman County district attorney, his chief deputy and his wife.

A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press that a dive team of state troopers was searching Lake Tawakoni on Wednesday, based on a tip. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly about the ongoing investigation.

Spokesmen for the Texas Department of Public Safety and the sheriff confirmed a search, but declined to say if it was linked to the case.

When police arrested former Justice of the Peace Eric Williams for the murders of District Attorney Mike McLelland and his assistant prosecutor Mark Hasse, they searched a storage locker in Seagoville and found the bottom half of guns they think were used in the murders.

Sources say the divers are below, what's called '2 Mile bridge', looking for the tops of the weapons.
