Officer Suspended For Role In Occupy Dallas Scuffle
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A Dallas police officer caught on camera pushing an Occupy Dallas protestor during an early November rally has been suspended.
Officer Jimmy Hollis received a one day suspension and a 60-day ban from working off duty jobs.
Hollis was working off duty security outside the Bank of America building in downtown Dallas on Nov. 5 when he confronted protestor Stephen Benavides for standing on a ledge. Hollis then allegedly pushed him several feet to the ground.
Benavides was charged with assaulting a public servant. Dallas police chief David Brown has asked a grand jury to review that charge.
Police are also dropping all charges against the protestors for walking into the street.
Benavides doesn't think the punishment went far enough.
The clash between Benavides and Hollis sparked the tension that eventually lead the city to remove Occupy Dallas from their campsite behind city hall on Nov. 17.
