DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An officer honors and remembers fallen Dallas police officers by publishing the third edition of a book titled "In The Line Of Duty."
Author and officer Steve Elwonger said his book starts in 1892 with the first Dallas officer killed in the line of duty, and each page features a portrait and story of how they passed.
The third edition of his book includes the five officers who lost their lives in the July 7th ambush in Downtown Dallas.
"It's all 84 officers. I added the 85th officer, the DART officer, Brent Thompson," said Elwonger.
The most recent names are still fresh in the minds of many people who bought Elwonger's book Friday at North Park Mall in Dallas.
"It affects you no matter where they are. No matter where the loss is," said buyer Donna Doeringsfeld. "It affects your family as well."
Elwonger signed copies of the book as they flew off his table. The books were selling for $20.
Every penny from the proceeds of the book helps Assist The Officer Foundation.
"It makes me feel great. It helps the families, and they sure need our support," said Doeringsfeld.
Elwonger said he hopes to raise over $20,000 for the sick and injured officers.
Readers of all ages turned up for lessons about sacrifice and respect.
"We're trying to just teach them about all the officers and the support that they five to our community," said buyer Tracey Dispensa.
