Off-Duty Firefighter Drowns At Lake Grapevine

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - According to the Grapevine Fire Department chief, a 30-year-old off-duty Grapevine firefighter drowned Saturday at Lake Grapevine.

The chief said the body was recovered around 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The fire department confirmed the name of the firefighter was James McKenzie.

According to the chief, McKenzie jumped into the lake Saturday morning with a friend and never resurfaced.

The fire department said McKenzie and his friend attempted to swim to shore from their anchored boat.

The friend made it to shore safely.

According to fire department, McKenzie was not wearing flotation device.

The fire department said they used search boats and sonar in Oak Grove Park on the south end of the lake.
