Obama Expands Disaster Aid To West

DALLAS (AP) - President Barack Obama has approved expanded disaster relief for those damaged by a devastating Central Texas fertilizer plant.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says it'll now allow direct assistance to individuals and households damaged by the April 17 explosion in West. The help includes grants for temporary housing, home repairs and medical, dental and funeral expenses.

The direct assistance was requested by Gov. Rick Perry. FEMA already was providing financial aid for emergency work to protect lives, property, public health and safety.

The application process can begin with a call to 1-800-621-3362 or registering at www.disasterassistance.gov.
