NWS Confirms 9 Tornadoes Tore Through North Texas

NORTH TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) — The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday evening that nine tornadoes tore through North Texas on Saturday.
The number may change as surveys continue on Monday for damage that has not yet been assessed, the NWS said. The storms killed 11 people in the Dallas area — eight in Garland and three in Collin County — as of Sunday evening.
One tornado hit both Rowlett and Garland, according to the NWS. The damage in Rowlett was consistent with an EF-3, while the Garland damage maxed at an EF-4, which means winds hit between 166 and 200 mph. This tornado caused a line of damage through Dallas and Rockwall counties that was about 13 miles long.
Two tornadoes hit Collin County. EF-2 damage was observed in Copeville, and EF-0 damage was found in Blue Ridge.
Additional areas that were hit by tornadoes include Ovilla/Glenn Heights, Hubbard, Ennis, Eustace, Sulphur Springs, Emory and Sunnyvale. Trained spotters reported some of these tornadoes; the NWS plans to survey some of these areas on Monday.
