NRA Members To Talk Guns With Arlington ISD
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Leaders in the Arlington Independent School District will sit down with two gun activists on Monday to discuss the possibility of having armed teachers in schools. The idea has been rejected by the district before, but at least two school board members will join two National Rifle Association members to discuss the idea again in light of the school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
The Arlington ISD has stood firm on its decision to keep things the way they are now, but the discussion on Monday does have the potential to open a door to change. Bill Sandlin and David McElwee, long-time members of the NRA, have wanted to the school district to let teachers and other staff members carry concealed handguns with a permit, if they choose.
The discussion will be held Monday night at 6:00 p.m. at Coker's Barbeque on Pioneer Parkway. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, board president Peter Baron and trustee John Hibbs are set to attend the event.
